Shwe Shwe quilt blocks

I’ve completed enough smaller quilts to finally venture out and make one for us.And since my husband loves quilts, he appreciates and does not mind me spending hours creating them.
I started on this quilt about eight months ago.
I used blue shwe shwe with chambray.
Since this is my first King size quilt I’m working on,I decided not to rush to complete it .It’s not too overwhelming this way.
Each time I work on it I think about how I’m going to baste and quilt such a big quilt all by myself. I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

I started by cutting strips and made the initial blocks
using strip tube piecing.I like this method because it is quick and easy and all the blocks are perfectly squared. I love advancement in technology.

I then pieced four small squares together to make the larger blocks.
Now that I’m done with the block, I realize that I need to add a contrast for the sashing to make it ‘pop’.It looks a bit bland with all the blue and grey.
I found some good matches here but the weight of the fabric does not match. So I guess I have to dye and print some cotton myself or wait until my next trip to South Africa to get some more shwe shwe.

In the meantime I’ll have to work on my other quilts.
