Recycled men’s pants. Bag lining.

I needed a new bag. This time I decided to add a zipper closure and welted zipper pocket as well.

I did not have suitable fabric in my stash for a lining. Since it was way way after midnight when I designed this bag, I couldn’t go out and buy fabric for the lining.

So I decided to use my husband’s pants which was meant for another project. I really wanted to use the front fly zipper as a pocket in the lining but it didn’t work well.
I used one of the back pockets and also a side pocket.

In order to position the pockets correctly I needed to do some patchwork around them. When the fabric was big enough after piecing them together, the lining could be cut.

I flipped the side pocket so the opening was on the top.

The strips for the zipper had to be on the bias, I did not have enough fabric but managed to extend the band with some scraps.

I also used the fabric from the pants as a pocket lining in the welted zipper pocket.

I was short of fabric for the bias binding so I had to use some for the shoulder strap too.
I also made a coin purse.

I have a a side pocket, back pocket, front fly zipper and the waistband left for another project.

The finished bag.

  1. Awesome! I love the green fabric! And so neat how you've managed to use the pant pockets! When I have the time of the world, I am going to becoe your most devoted student.
