Men’s shirt recycled to girls dress and pants

It’s been a few months since I last recycled a shirt.
I had this shirt for some time now. Because I liked the fabric so much and wasn’t sure what to make with it, I decided to put away for a while until I came up with an idea. I’m so glad I did.
 This is what I made.

The shirt was a large, I usually like to use bigger shirts. And managed to get a 12-18 month dress and pants. I removed the cuffs and made a capri pants. For the pants I added an additional strip for the elastic and to allow for a diaper.
It was a bit tricky to get enough bias strips. I had to join quite a few short pieces even to get enough for the armholes.
I still have some scraps. I may make some soft shoes and then use the rest in a quilt.

I removed the pocket, experimented with some acrylic paints and vegetables before putting them into the green bin.

I opened the pleat at the back of the shirt, did some smocking and used it for the front. The smocking was just an experiment with variegated thread, which seems to work well. Next time I will smock more rows though.

Then used the button down front as the back.
