Getting Creative With Tank Tops.

Crafting with t shirts and tank tops are extremely popular. It seems to be a blank canvas and there is so much one can do with them. They are also good for beginner sewing projects. One of my favourite things to do with them, is adding a skirt. It is a great way to clear the stash of scraps is to add a skirt to a t shirt or tank top. You may need to cut the top to allow for the added length. Or simply make a longer dress. I tend to prefer tank tops and fitted t shirts. But you can use the parts you cut to further embellish you project further or make accessories. Most of us tend to purchase more fabric than is required for a project. Or sometimes the fabric is too wide or even one way, so we end up with excess fabric. And find ourselves with a pile of leftover fabric.

Bandanas are great for this kind of project too. Simply cut a circle according to the required measurements, pin and sew. You can make a pretty child’s dress.

For the turquoise dress, I decided to make some flowers with the scraps of fabric that I had left over after cutting out the circle. In the case of the purple one, the tank top was too long, so I gathered the rest of the knit fabric to create a ruffle.

By adding some pink lining to the organza and them layering it, added weight to it to hang better. These organza flowers turned out really well.  I think it is because the fabric was lightweight but fairly stiff.

I was fortunate to find a tank top that matched so well with this lightweight knit fabric. Making a lettuce edge and layers worked really well with this dress.
