Freezer Paper Stenciling With Oil Sticks

I love working with freezer paper so much that I went to a restaurant supply store and bought a roll of it.

One of the things I like to do with it is textile design / surface design. We needed some new grocery totes, so I decided to make some. Harbor Freight Tools is a good place to get canvas drop cloths. Their drop cloths are made from polycotton. I only noticed this when I started working with it. I could not use my paint for 100% cotton. So I went with oil sticks. It is a good medium to use for this fabric.

I also needed to test the new stencils in our store. I do cut stencils by hand, but this time I used a Silhouette Cameo to cut the freezer paper. It did a good job. You can resize the design template to fit your your project. For the bags, I increased the size.

For the lilies stencil , I decided to to cut the flowers on a different sheet. The digital download template can be purchased here.

For the bow I simply blocked the stems with an old credit cards. I used stencil brushes for all the designs.

The stencil size for the baby woodland animals was also increased. Even though different colors were used, there was no need to block parts of the template. These can be purchased as a digital download template here or as a precut reusable stencil here.
