I’ve been wanting to knit a multicolored child’s blanket for a long time.
Our local library allows us to use one of the rooms for the knitting club, where one of the librarians teaches for one week and we’re on our own the next. The teacher encourages us to try different methods and patterns. We thought the Entrelac stitch would be challenging at first, but after reading through the instruction carefully,[something I don’t always do] it wasn’t complicated at all.
The yarn used is Patons Grace 100% mercerized cotton which I purchased almost two years ago for another project. It was wonderful to knit with and has a lovely sheen.
I knitted with two strands and 4mm needles, casted on 88 stitches and worked with 8 stitches at a time twisting the knit stitch.
I happily continued knitting until I ran out of yarn. All I needed was one more ball of each. I had the labels with numbers and confidently started my search since about a month ago I saw that the store still carried the Patons Grace.
As luck would have it,the orange [terracotta] had been discontinued. The company also decided to switch manufacturers. The yarn I had was made in Bulgaria ant the new yarn was made in Turkey. So even though the blue[azure] and the green[wasabi] is still available, the colors are totally different.
The blanket would just not look good without adding two more sections of each color.
Thanks to technology, I found a store on line Do It Yarns who had all the colors I needed. It was made in Bulgaria but my only concern was that the dye lots were different. Well naturally I couldn’t expect to find the same dye lots after all this time.
I don’t usually buy yarn and fabric on line.So reluctantly took the chance and prayed.
When the package arrived, I was pleased.I could now complete my project. The crochet around the edges was done in single crochet.Since I’m fairly new to crochet, I didn’t want to attempt anything else with the border.
This is beautiful, Aysha! I'm glad you found the right yarn!
